Chute

An application that adds a drag-and-drop zone at the top, onto which you can drop files, links, or text to send them directly to your iPhone via AirDrop.

It has a nice and simple interface where you can define your iPhone’s name, open the assistant, and tweak a few other settings.

It is lightweight and easy to use, consuming barely any Mac resources.

However, during testing, I ran into some issues.

Most of the times I tried to send a file or link, it indicated that it had already been sent, but the iPhone never received it.

To fix this, I tried restarting the Mac, the iPhone, and even the router in case it was due to a connectivity issue.

I also tried closing the application several times, disabling AirDrop, or putting both devices in airplane mode, always with the same result: “AirDrop Off”.

To rule out an issue with AirDrop itself, I tried sending the exact same thing at the exact same time through the app and through the traditional sharing method. The result was that the traditional method worked, but the app did not.

On the occasions when it did work, I missed having a progress bar during the transfer instead of a simple “Sending” message.

Additionally, I think it would be great if I could add more devices and not just an iPhone. Perhaps a drop zone could be added per device, which could be quite useful.
